We woke up cold this morning! I knew it was coming, but I didn’t think it’d be so soon! Silly me- it IS September, after all.
I looked over the clothes we have for our smallest member, and I think we’ve just about got things covered. He’ll need more socks, probably, and definitely more hats. Our house is cold, you see. We have a wood-burning stove, but even so, there are parts of the house that stay chilly- especially the floors! Which is exactly where this little man is going to want to spend his time. I’ve got fabric out to make a few pairs of soft shoes, and I have a bit of yarn that I’ll use to make him another hat. I don’t know what else to do to keep him toasty this winter. Do you all have any ideas or suggestions?

Leg warmers! It’s really easy to make them out of old adult socks, so you can pick manly-looking ones if it’s important to you. They helped fill the gap between Lucy’s socks and pants. :-)

Thanks for the link! That’s great. I have some wool sweaters that I thought of using to make leg warmers. Socks would be even easier.
Blanket sleepers for bedtime — my kids never would stay covered up and I kept the temp lowish (65° maybe), even though we had central heat.
If you can find thermal underwear (one piece or two) in his size that would be good for layering under his day clothes. Mine were bad about taking off their socks, so when I could find a one-piece thermal “sleep and play” with feet, that’s what I liked best. Footed clothes seem better than socks anyway, not just because they stay on but because they won’t cut off (or slow down) the baby’s ciruculation to his feet. For both of those reasons, socks that go up to the knees are better than ankle socks, which means you might have to buy socks meant for an older child and just have to put up with sock heels that are around his calves.
In general, I think one-piece suits are warmer (no gapping around the waist) and more comfortable (not binding around the waist and thighs). If you have to use a two-piece outfit, be sure he has on a one-piece undergarment, like a onesie, to keep his tummy and back covered.
I think we’ll probably get him some baby long johns. We both ended up with some last winter and it helped tremendously. We’re both so thin that it’s hard to keep warm sometimes! Justified has the advantage of some body fat and LOTS of activity.
I really appreciate your tips. Thanks. :)
I second Jessie’s suggestion of leg warmers! They’re great. They make diaper changes warmer because there’s still something on the legs after the pants are off!
Jenny, he’s currently sporting a pair of my socks under his pants. :P
