Is the point of a party to see people, or to feed them?
There isn’t a right or wrong answer here, of course. I’m just interested to hear what you all think. Maybe you think the point is something entirely different?

Seems to me the point of a party is to spend time with people (or if you’re the hostess, to allow people to spend time with each other). Food is a really great way to facilitate that. So, perhaps both.
Yes. To see people eating your food, maybe? Or it depends on the party. Sometimes we have parties that are mainly to feed people…and we spend enough time in the kitchen that we don’t see them quite as much (well, not really since our place is so small…but don’t talk to them as much) and other times mainly to spend time with them. Other times to cook with them!
Think of this: What would a party be like without any food at all?
And: What would a party be like if no one talked much but the food was amazing?
I don’t know. What do you think?
I like a theme; I want to celebrate something. Maybe I’m not as social as I thought?
For them to see you and for you to feed them. Think of it as a kinda mutual admiration society!
Seriously, though, eating together (not just sitting in the same room while you’re eating) is an intimate act of sorts. To me it suggests that the group cares so much about each other that they are willing to tolerate any indelicate eating habits in order to further the relationship.
Of course, it’s just my opinion…
Is this a Mary or Martha question?
It’s an opportunity for them to see you feed them! :-)
My problem is that I can’t seem to separate the two- if I care about someone, I like to feed them. It doesn’t seem right to be with someone and not eat. People are certainly more important to me than food, but when I think about people, the next thing my brain says is, “what can I feed them?”.
People => food.
Food => people.
Also, one of the best and nicest things anyone can do for me is feed me. Someone can say they’re my friend or they love me all they want, but if we never eat together, if they never give me any food– I just don’t hear it.
I have food waiting on the table for you, Kelly!
I am looking forward to it!
