Remember, Kelly, everything you said about France being an adventure? Do you remember that ‘adventure’ means something you aren’t used to? Something foreign, even? That could, potentially, have something to do with tiny horse figurines and 6 house pets? And tile floors that are cold, which means your feet are cold, because you didn’t bring enough pairs of socks?
This is not hardship. You are not starving (thank God for cheese!). You are not deprived of sleep. You are getting room and board and pocket money in exchange for watching some kids for a few hours a day. You, may I remind you, are in France. France!
DO YOU NEED SOCKS?! Where are my knitting needles?! You shall have socks!!
Becky, you are so great! I think my Mom is going to send some, but I can’t say no to socks hand-knitted by Becky herself! So…if you want to, I will gladly accept. But don’t go to extra trouble on my account. :)
Yeah, you’re alive! (This can be determined by cold feet.) If they get too cold, it could be an indication of no longer being alive.
Of course, they’re tile floors, you didn’t really think that the rest of the world loved filthy carpets like Americans, did you?
Forget the socks. Go straight out and get you some hard-soled slippers. (Two pairs are better than one, you’ll go right plumb through them).
6 Pets. Authentique, n’est-ce pas?
What’s the problem with horse figurines?
Kelly, glad you got there ok! Note: Convince yourself that in this case, clutter is “endearing”. Horse figurines could be interesting. Wow, six house pets! I bet you miss no mess Dusty! :) How is your pseudo-family?
Oui, Tami…très authentique. They don’t bother about me, although one of the cats managed to jump in bed with me at 2:30 this morning.
As to carpets…carpets are not cold. One can wear socks so as not to get dirty, and one’s feet will be warm. Here, it is not so. One pair of socks will get you nowhere. I think your advice is sound- I’ll be looking out for some slippers.
Lisa– thanks for the encouragement- you think so kindly of clutter! :) I do miss Dusty, which is funny, because I never cared much if he was around. I want the familiar, I guess.
Both of you– horse figurines surprised me, but not as much as finding out that my hostess plays ‘Pony Vallee’ online.
